LAMDA Development invests in the future of Greek sports

At a time when modern infrastructure forms the foundation of social and cultural progress, LAMDA Development is taking a decisive step towards the sustainable upgrade of sports facilities in Attica. LAMDA aims to redefine the citizens’ relationship with sports and help showcase iconic facilities that had long remained inactive. The company behind The Ellinikon, the largest urban regeneration project in Greece’s history, places top priority on ensuring that the benefits of this transformation are shared across the whole of Attica, for the good of all.
For the first time in Greece, a private company is taking an active role in redeveloping and upgrading multiple Olympic venues, including the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (OAKA), the Olympic Village and the Paiania Sports Center, while also constructing the ambitious Ellinikon Sports Park. Through this initiative, LAMDA Development is radically transforming Attica’s sports infrastructure, by creating modern, open spaces for sports and culture, accessible to all.
OAKA and the Olympic Museum of Athens: Reconnecting with the Olympic legacy
A large-scale intervention is underway at the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (OAKA). With an investment totaling €6.6 million, LAMDA Development has been commissioned to renovate 11 swimming pools as part of the aquatic center reconstruction. This modern sports infrastructure is designed to serve both professional athletes and the general public, positioning it as one of the largest aquatic centers in Europe. Renovation works have also been carried out at the weightlifting venue and the velodrome.
This initiative is not limited to the aesthetic or technical upgrade of the facilities. It will essentially reconnect the citizens to the historic venue that hosted the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Free access to the public highlights the project’s social dimension, transforming OAKA into a vibrant hub for daily exercise and gatherings.
At the same time, initiatives such as the Olympic Museum of Athens at Golden Hall emphasize the cultural dimension of sports. The museum approaches sports as a vehicle for education and inspiration for younger generations, while strengthening the timeless connection between the public and Greece’s Olympic legacy.

Paiania: From neglect to redevelopment
The renovation of the sports facilities in Paiania marks another important chapter in LAMDA Development’s broader strategy to redevelop sports facilities. With an investment totaling €10 million, LAMDA Development has redesigned the outdated infrastructure to host modern sports, recreational and educational programs.
The two indoor gyms have undergone energy upgrades, while extensive repair work has been carried out on the metal roofs, and damages were restored both inside and outside the buildings. The refurbished facilities are fully accessible to people with disabilities. In addition, the complex now includes a 16-room guesthouse to host national teams, further enhancing the venue’s functionality. This historic sports center in Paiania is gaining new momentum and is once again establishing itself as a hub for exercise and development in eastern Attica.
Olympic Village: Breathing new life into the swimming pool
As part of the offset projects for the Agios Kosmas facilities, LAMDA Development undertook and completed the full renovation of the swimming pool at the Olympic Village. Following the works, the facility was completely transformed through:
- Constructing a modern air-supported dome.
- Upgrading all electromechanical systems.
- Repairing the building’s exterior shell and the swimming pool basin.
- Completely reconstructing the changing rooms, in line with the highest standards of functionality and hygiene.
A total investment of €1.1 million has turned the Olympic Village into a modern sports facility for athletes of all ages and skill levels. This project demonstrates that even smaller-scale, targeted interventions can deliver a meaningful social and functional impact.
The Ellinikon Sports Park: A spots hub on the Athens Riviera
LAMDA Development’s most ambitious sports project is The Ellinikon Sports Park , part of the broader urban regeneration initiative at Ellinikon.
Designed to serve as a multifunctional hub for sports, recreation and wellbeing, the park will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including:
- A running track and throwing area with a seating capacity of 1,000.
- Outdoor tennis and basketball courts.
- An aquatic center.
- A football complex with 4 fields (11-a-side) – 2 with hybrid and 2 with synthetic turf.
- Athlete accommodation with 124 rooms.

Projects with a social impact
LAMDA Development’s investment strategy is defined by one core principle: respect for people and society. Its sports-related initiatives are not simply about upgrading existing facilities. They have been designed with sustainability and meaningful civic contribution in mind. Accessible to all, functional and environmentally friendly, these projects represent a new sporting experience, placing sports back at the heart of urban living and social planning.
For LAMDA Development, sports mean strength, progress and creativity. That’s why the company continues to invest in projects that deliver real value. Through initiatives that combine tangible contributions with long-term benefits, the company is laying the foundation for a society that moves, plays, competes and grows
