LAMDA Development among the 100 most influential companies worldwide
In 2024 LAMDA Development was included in TIME magazine’s TIME100 Most Influential Companies list, under the “Innovators” category, for The Ellinikon project. This marks the first time a Greek company has been featured on this list, alongside global powerhouses such as Google, Amazon, Disney, Airbus and others.
This recognition affirms our commitment to creating innovative projects that move society forward. As a matter of fact, The Ellinikon project is currently the largest urban regeneration project in Europe. Located in the southern suburbs of Athens, a smart city spanning 6.2 million m2 will host a metropolitan park, a beach complex and marina, residential buildings, malls, tourist facilities, restaurants and entertainment spaces, office buildings, schools and healthcare facilities.
What is the TIME100 Most Influential Companies list
Every year, TIME, the prestigious US magazine, selects the 100 most influential companies worldwide in every sector, from healthcare and technology to transport and entertainment, and features them in the TIME100 Most Influential Companies. These are companies with a vision to change the world, standing out for their innovation, leadership and social impact.
To compile the list, TIME seeks candidates by conducting in-depth global research through its worldwide network of correspondents and partners, along with input from external experts.
The Ellinikon: Innovation rooted in sustainability
The state-of-the-art buildings at The Ellinikon conform with best sustainability practices, such as:
- Green construction – Relies on the use of low-carbon building materials.
- Bioclimatic design – Makes the most of the sun or wind to meet a building's heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting needs, with the minimum possible energy consumption.
The buildings at The Ellinikon have already earned or are on track to earn LEED and BREEAM certifications, globally recognized standards for energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable innovation, etc.
In addition, the 15-minute smart city along the Athens Riviera will include an underground electricity grid using renewable energy, sensors and the Internet of Things (IoT) for minimizing water consumption, smart waste management, innovative parking solutions and green mobility options such as bike-sharing services.
From the very beginning, the architectural design of The Ellinikon aimed at introducing a new urban landscape in Athens. In this context, we approached some of the leading architects in the world. This led to us partnering with Foster + Partners, which has been commissioned to design the masterplan for the Riviera Tower, the tallest bioclimatic skyscraper in the Mediterranean. Additionally, we commissioned renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma to design the Riviera Galleria shopping mall, perhaps the most impressive shopping destination in The Ellinikon, while for the remaining projects, we worked together with other prominent architectural firms.
Driving society forward
The urban regeneration of The Ellinikon will forever transform the way of life in the southern suburbs of Athens. Its residents will have access to office buildings, schools and healthcare facilities in under 15 minutes. Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy nature at the metropolitan park and the beach, go shopping, and relax in restaurants and entertainment spaces.
This project will breathe new life into the area, as it is expected to create up to 80,000 new jobs and unprecedented business opportunities. It is estimated that the 2 hotels and the resort will attract an additional 1 million tourists every year, while the Agios Kosmas marina will establish the coastal front of The Ellinikon as a Mediterranean yachting hub, with over 300 berths for docking yachts and even super yachts.
