LAMDA Developments Dynamic Presence at the 9th International Retail Real Estate Exhibition in Cannes
LAMDA Development participated once again in the largest international showcase of retail real estate, MAPIC 2003, which took place in Cannes between November 19 and 21 with the participation of the most significant companies involved in the international retail real estate industry.
LAMDA Development once again was the only Greek company to participate in the MAPIC exhibition with its own independent stand, where visitors had the opportunity to exchange views with company executives and to learn more about the innovative commercial and leisure centres that LAMDA Development is developing both in Athens and Thessaloniki. At MAPIC, LAMDA Development executives held personal meetings with business people from all over the world to discuss new investment opportunities and to explore potential collaborations in projects that are currently under development.
The 9th MAPIC Exhibit took place at the Cannes Convention Centre and constituted once again the most important gathering of professionals involved in the retail real estate sector. The exhibit focused on the development of new, ultra-modern commercial and leisure centres as well as urban expansion across the globe. During the threeday exhibit, the progress of the international retail real estate sector as well as the prospects of MAPIC-participating companies were presented, while special events and knowledge-sharing conferences were also organized. According to initial estimates, approximately 6,000 participants attended the exhibit, of which more than 1,300 were retailers.
INNOVATIVE COMMERCIAL & LEISURE CENTRES IN GREECE
LAMDA Development is developing the first two multi-use commercial and leisure centres in Greece through
its subsidiary, LAMDA Olympia Village, at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games Media Village in Maroussi and, through PYLEA S.A. (in co-operation with Sonae-Charagionis S.A.) in Pylea, Thessaloniki (Mediterranean Cosmos Commercial and Leisure Centre). These centres have already proven their success in many countries around the world and offer a completely new and highly significant business product to the Greek market. The aim of the centres is to provide a unique blend of retail, entertainment and cultural activities designed to change the shopping habits of the Greek consumer forever.
The Commercial and Leisure Centre of Maroussi comprises a section of the overall Athens 2004 Olympic Games Media Village, which is categorized as one of the largest investments in Greece and the region of Southeastern Europe. Mediterranean Cosmos is the first and largest commercial and leisure centre of its kind in northern Greece. Located in the Municipality of Pylea on a 250,000 sq. metre site that belongs to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the centre is strategically located southeast of Thessaloniki, providing easy access to the city centre, the surrounding areas and the Thessaloniki International Airport.
The commercial and leisure centres will serve as a main destination point where every member of the family can enjoy highly aesthetic areas offering a diverse range of retail shops and entertainment facilities in a beautiful, safe and comfortable environment. Through these two centres, LAMDA Development aspires to satisfy the diverse consumer needs and preferences of all incomes by offering a wide range of consumer goods and brands. The anchor tenants are expected to play a significant role in attracting consumers and increasing the number of visitors, while the relationships developed between the centres owner-manager and tenants are expected to increase sales and to establish the centre as a key destination point.
LAMDA Developments ultimate goal through the development of these two important centres in Athens and Thessaloniki is to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors of Greece and to add value to the investment and to tourism by attracting investors and visitors.
