LAMDA Development presented a development project for land owned by the Ecumenical Patriarchate

LAMDA Development CEO Lambros Anagnostopoulos presented the preliminary plans for the project undertaken by a group company, to develop 25 hectares of land owned by the Ecumenical Patriarchate at the eastern approach to Thessaloniki. The presentation took place in Thessaloniki on 13 and 14 February 2001 during the two day conference “Major Construction Projects” and “Real Estate Forum”.

The LAMDA Development group of companies is developing an ultra-modern shopping and recreation center, with the ambition of “being the first group of companies to develop such a project in Thessaloniki”, to quote LAMDA Development CEO Lambros Anagnostopoulos. The project budget is expected to reach € 100 million.

The land is situated in a strategic location on the eastern approach to the city, in the municipality of Pylaia. The site has easy access from and to the city of Thessaloniki, right on the city’s ring road, and is also close to the international airport Macedonia of Thessaloniki, facilitating access for visitors to the city. The site is also very close to the Hyatt Regency Hotel and to the Trans-Balkan Medical Center.

The project will include a 5 hectare shopping mall on one or two levels, depending on ground slope, and also a Greek village including a church. The site will be fully landscaped and will include about 3,000 parking spaces, and also sports grounds.

LAMDA Development CEO Lambros Anagnostopoulos commented that “This shopping center will be one of the most modern and clearly best looking in Europe. To accomplish that end LAMDA Development will appoint internationally acknowledged consultants and local subcontractors, and will collaborate with experts in various specialties relating to the development and management of similar projects.”

The LAMDA Development group would want to see the project become a center of commerce and recreation for all of Thessaloniki, and also a magnet for visitors from the Balkan countries, thus contributing to the development of Thessaloniki as a commercial node for southeastern Europe.

The development of this site is the second project undertaken by LAMDA Development in Thessaloniki. Swissport LAMDA Hellas was recently awarded a license to provide ground handling services at the Macedonia airport of Thessaloniki. These two important business steps are now confirming the promise given by the group’s CEO in last year’s Real Estate Forum held in Thessaloniki, where he said that “LAMDA Development believes in the importance of Thessaloniki and will be coming along as the city moves to achieve its high goals.”
